Officer Struck By Suspected DUI Driver Near Eagles Playoff Game In South Philadelphia

A Philadelphia police officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle near the South Philly Sports Complex during Sunday’s Eagles playoff game, authorities announced on Sunday, Jan. 19. 

The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. on the 1000 block of Pattison Avenue as the Eagles faced the Rams in the NFL playoffs, police said. Click here to watch the video of the brief chase. 

An officer with the Traffic Division was struck by a vehicle while stationed at her assigned traffic post, police said. She was transported to Jefferson Hospital for treatment, though her condition has not been disclosed.

Law enforcement sources told NBC10 that the driver, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs, had been driving erratically near 26th Street and Penrose Avenue when Pennsylvania State Police attempted to pull them over. The driver fled toward the Sports Complex, where they reversed and struck the officer’s vehicle while trying to evade police, the sources said.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody. Police have not confirmed the charges the individual may face.
